Following the recent fall of the Assad regime<\/a>, rebel<\/a> forces stormed Saydnaya Prison, freeing thousands of detainees. This notorious prison, often referred to as the “Human Slaughterhouse,” has been a site of extreme torture and mass executions. Families are now desperately searching for their loved ones who were held there. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amidst the fall of the Assad regime, several old and unrelated images and videos are being circulated on social media, misleadingly linked to the atrocities committed at the Syrian Prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently an unrelated image has been shared by social media users with context to  citing violence committed at Syrian Prison. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The recent liberation of Saydnaya Prison by rebel forces has revealed severe human rights abuses that took place there. Media outlets, including the Associated Press and BBC News<\/a>, report on the systematic torture and mass executions that occurred in the notorious “Human Slaughterhouse<\/a>.” Families continue their heart-wrenching search for thousands of missing detainees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, we applied Google reverse image search on the image shared by social media users with claims of atrocities committed in the Syrian Prison and found that the shared image does not depict torture committed at the Saydnaya Prison. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The image dating back at least 20 years, depicts a hooded prisoner reportedly named Abdou Hussain Saad Faleh<\/a> with wires attached to his fingers, standing on a box with a covered head. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The infamous image of the “Hooded Man” at Abu Ghraib prison<\/a> became a global symbol of the abuses committed during the Iraq War. This photograph was widely circulated by media outlets, including The New Yorker, The Economist, and The New York Times, sparking international outrage and condemnation. The widespread media coverage brought significant attention to the issue of prisoner abuse and highlighted severe human rights violations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hence from the above investigation it is clear that The image of a hooded detainee does not show Syrian Prisoners. The image was widely shared by international media in 2004 depicting a  hooded prisoner being tortured at  Abu Gharib Prison post US invasion of Iraq.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t
