Former Afghan president Ashraf Ghani fled the nation after American troops left Afghanistan and Taliban took control over Kabul on 15 August 2021. After leaving Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani and his close allies took refuge in the United Arab Emirates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, several social media users have shared fake claims about Ashraf Ghani returning to Afghanistan or meeting Taliban leaders in capital city Kabul. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently some social media users claimed that former president Ashraf Ghani visited Afghanistan and met with Taliban officials at Kabul airport. Several morphed or old images were used with misleading claims. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Facebook post claims that former Afghan president Ashraf Ghani visited Afghanistan recently and met with some of the Taliban leaders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, FactCrescendo’s findings show that the claims of the visit of  Ashraf Ghani to Afghanistan are fake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fact check<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To find out the truth behind the claims, we first scrolled through the social media accounts of Ashraf Ghani. However, the former president has not mentioned any visit or plan to visit the country recently. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, we searched for keywords to find news reports corroborating the social media claims. However, there are no media reports regarding any such visit of Ashraf Ghani to Afghanistan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Further we applied Google reverse image search on the shared image to find out the truth. We found that the image shared on social media is actually fake and created by digital manipulation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to an article published by Khaama Press on October 23, 2018, a similar image was taken after former President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani visited Kandahar to condole with the families of the victims after the deadly attack in Kandahar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
