After the takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban on 15 August 2021, there has been huge criticism by international media and human rights organizations against the Taliban government over human rights violations especially against minorities in the country. 

The recent attack in an educational center in Kabul has once again raised security concerns for the people of Afghanistan, especially women and minorities. In the recent suicide bomb attack, an educational center with most students belonging to the minority Hazara community was targeted. This left almost 52 students, majority of them girls, dead.

However, a lot of misinformation is also being shared on social media in the context of the recent attack in Kabul. 

A picture of an injured girl is being shared on social media, with a claim that the girl is one of the survivors of the latest suicide attack.

Social media users have claimed that the girl, whose picture is being shared on social media, survived the recent bombing in Kabul educational center. 

However, Fact Crescendo’s findings show that the woman, whose image is being shared in the context of the recent blast in an educational center in Kabul, is from an old and different incident. 

Fact check

We started our investigation by searching the viral image on Google using Reverse Image Search. We found that the shared image is not of any survivor of the recent blast. The image is several years old. 

During investigation, we found that the woman (seen in the viral photo) is not the survivor of the recent blast in an educational center of Kabul. The woman was actually one of the survivors of a suicide blast attack when A Taliban suicide car bomber detonated explosives near a bus carrying staffers from TOLO TV in Darulaman Road in Kabul on 20 January 2016.

The woman named Razia Noorizada Didar was an employee of Tolo news and one of the survivors of the attack in which more than 7 Tolo news employees were killed and 18 were injured.

Hence, it is clear that this woman is not the victim of latest suicide blast in an educational center in Kabul.

Conclusion 

From our investigation, it is clear that social media users have shared an old image of a victim of another suicide attack in the context of the recent suicide blast in Kabul. The social media claims are hence misleading.
