American troops left Afghanistan after almost 20 years of presence and Taliban took over Kabul on 15 August 2021. Since then Afghanistan's economy has been crumbling due to heavy economic sanctions posed by the USA on Afghanistan.

Afghanistan is on the verge of becoming a failed state and Taliban has been asking the world community for help to fight with the hunger and poverty in the country and has asked USA to remove the economic sanctions.

Recently some media agencies have reported that American dollars are being smuggled into Afghanistan from Pakistan.

Recently, an image is being shared on twitter with context to the alleged smuggling of dollars into Afghanistan.

However, Fact Crescendo's findings show that an old and unrelated image is being on social media with the claims of smuggling of dollars into Afghanistan.

Fact check

Firstly, we searched for keywords to find out the authenticity of these social media claims of illegal smuggling of American dollars into Afghanistan from Pakistan. During investigation, we found several media reports, which carry the news of alleged smuggling of dollars are true to some extent.

For further investigation, we applied Google reverse image search on the image, which is being recently shared on Twitter.

We found that the image does not belong to any recent incident of illegal dollars smuggling to Afghanistan.

We found that a similar image was published by NBC News and according to the article, a Hong Kong man was arrested as he attempted to smuggle $580,000 in U.S. banknotes into China on 23 April 2014.

Chinese police at a checkpoint in Shenzhen city detained the man with banknotes strapped around him.

Hence, from the above investigation it is clear that an old and unrelated image of a man who was detained while attempting illegal smuggling of currency in china in 2014 is being shared with misleading context.
