Old Image Shared as Recent Explosion in Kabul
Armed attacks were carried out by the Afghanistan Freedom Front on the Taliban forces in the 9th and 4th districts of Kabul city on November 27.
These attacks took place at Kabul Airport road and Salim Karwan area of Kabul city, killing 6 Taliban forces and injuring 3.
Following these events, a number of social media users have shared an image purported to be of the attacks.
In this image, fire and smoke on the streets can be seen. Here is a tweet about the incident carrying the viral image.
However, our investigation reveals that the image is not of the recent attacks but an old incident.
Fact Check
Through reverse image search, we found that a number of media websites have published this image on November 13, 2021. It is reported that the photo is from a deadly explosion that targeted mainly the Hazara and Shia suburb of Kabul.
According to the reports, explosion goes off in a minivan in Dasht-e-Barchi area in the west of the Afghan capital.
Conclusion
The image shared along with the news of recent attacks against the Taliban forces is old. Though it is true that Taliban forces were attacked in Kabul on November 27, the image being shared is actually from 2021.
